shore to berkeley. also the morning commute is good, let's go back to the desk. a man was stabbed an injured in san jose and it happened while he was just sitting in his car. janine de la vega is on the scene and just spoke to the victim's friend, jeanine? >> reporter: that is right, they were not able to go back to sleep and they said the victim and some friends were here on the corner in front of an apartment complex drinking. you can still see some of the beer bottles left over but you can see all the broken glass from all the violence that broke out. a 20-year-old man who lives in this apartment complex was in his car when another vehicle pulled up. he broke the victim's window and started to stab him. police say he was stabbed twice. we spoke to his friend who said she ran up right after it happened. >> i heard like a car window

smash and like beer bottles breaking and i like ran down and i like wanted to cry because that is sad. >> reporter: the man was rushed to the hospital where he is suffering from non-life threatening injuries and after speaking to witnesses they believe it is gang related. no arrests have been made so far. just to give you an idea where we are, we are right near the expressway and people said in the last year the violence here has been increasing and they tell us people who live here, this area is known as crime zone and we even went on to facebook when we went to see where the location is, what pops up is crime zone to you want to check the status.

. welcome back, time is now 5:11, we are getting new information where a gunman took his family hostage and shot and killed them. the gunman's wife was able to escape by jumping out of a second story window and she called 911. the gunman killed three of his relatives and he was killed after a six hour standoff. it is still not clear why he went on a that shooting rampage. the deadly shooting took

place just a couple of miles from the deadly shooting. tomorrow marks the second anniversary of tucson, arizona where the gunman killed six people an injured congresswoman gabrielle giffords -- former congresswoman gabrielle giffords. >> this interfaith prayer service was held in tucson arizona. many were there including ron barber. they asked people just to pause for a moment of silence and ring a bell at 10:10 tomorrow morning in rememberance of the tragedy. they are kicking off for the latest in ammunition in california. they have written information to create stricter standards for ammunition sales. it will require them for i.d.

pets. they created city dog share and it is a non-profit organization where dog owners can trade walking training and feeding dogs so that somebody can share somebody else's responsibilities. more than 40 people have signed up. a dog that was condemned to death will be saved. a two-year-old dog named charlie has been in custody after he attacked a u.s. park police horse. they offered them a deal to send the dog to a sanctuary if the owner gave up custody but the owner has refused to do it and they are hoping he will do it in an effort to save the dog. there will be a hearing on friday. you may hear extra noise

. welcome back. thousands are joining studies to find out why breast cancer rates here in the bay area are so high. they are focused on early exposure to chemicals. one study tracks women who were pregnant in 1959 and 1967. another focuses on contra costa, marin and san francisco counties. they are also -- researchers are also looking at lifestyle and diets. they are cracking down on thefts at vallejo schools. they were targeted christmas day. now the district superintendent

told me the vallejo times set them up expecting the thieves to go back and finish the job. but a security guard was there and called the police. the school district reportedly tripped the alarms when wires were cut. they are trying to figure out what led up to a deadly accident where a woman crashed her car and ended up in upon. it happened on state highway 85. witnesses say the driver sped through a red light, hit a curb and went into the water. it took divers more than 40 minutes to find the woman but by the time they got to her it was too late. >> one firefighter tried to swim out at his own perfect writ trying to fine her, there was zero visibility and that was all he could do. >> they will look for any

looks good heading out to the peninsular, it is 5:30 let's go back to the desk. a man was stabbed an injured while sitting in his car. janine de la vega has more on the investigation, good morning, jeanine. >> good morning, police tells us the stabbing is gang related. you can see the broken glass left from where his window was smashed. a friend said she found him walking up here to the apartment clutching himself and bleeding. >> reporter: now police say around 12:40 a.m. a man was sitting in his car when another vehicle pulled up and officers say the person broke the victim's window and stabbed him twice. several people heard all of the breaking glass and we spoke to the victim's friend who said she rode up right after it

and she was shot at 10:30 across the street from the high school. police have not said what led up to that shooting. a san francisco woman who was set on fire is pleading for the suspect to turn himself in. coming up, who the police are searching for right now, alex? >> reporter: well the victim's family said this attack is hard for them to comprehend. this morning, this mother of three is hospitalized to both severe burns to her face and next after her boyfriend set her on fire during an argument. police are asking to you keep an eye out for this man, dexter all very. this attack happened in the bay view district. police say oliver used gas from one of the cancers at the

couple's home. investigators say he doused his girlfriend with that gas and then set her on fire in the middle of the street. the victim is 25-year-old star lamar. the couple did have problems. >> they had problems but i didn't think it would go this far. >> reporter: the victim's sister said this fight began at lawn matt not far from their house. she wanted to leave their laundry there and he didn't like the idea which is when he got the cansster of gasoline. he has a unique haircut, a fish design on one side and a lightning bolt on the other. if you have seen him give him a call.

man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire. the victim is in the hospital and has life-threatening injuries. and president barack obama will announce he is nominating chuck hagel as the next secretary of defense. some republicans oppose hagel's nomination and accused him of being anti-israel. new this morning, a ship ran aground and has been floated from the rocks. now teams are trying to determine if the ship is in good enough condition to be towed a way to a protective bay. the ship ran a ground to be carrying the diesel but so far no sign of a spill. media will not be allowed to attend the trial of the five men accused of raping a woman

exit at 74 5:00 last night. he got out and tried to run across four lanes of traffic but he was hit by a car and killed. chp did stop and tried to help him and the cause of that crash is under investigation. a man crashed into two light poles early yesterday morning. the driver veered off the side of the road and flipped over. investigators want to know if the wet weather may have caused the crash. they say they don't think the driver was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. and an oakland woman is reported missing friday morning has been found safe. about 10:30 police say 63-year- old gloria g was found. we have no other details yet. her husband reported her missing friday morning when she did not show up for work. lawmakers get to work with

the majority and the session began as the new legislature was sworn in. democrats now have a house majority and can pass legislation with new taxes without any republican votes. and charged in marin county with an unusual defense. a man was ticketed for driving in the carpool lane alone. he plans to argue he was not alone because he had incorporation papers inside his car. they view corporations as people and he should not have been cited. he is fed up with the laws and he said if necessary he will take the case all the way to the supreme court. if you are willing to drive to the air force base, expect big traffic delays. westbound ramp will be closed

are showing us a lot of slow traffic there and freeways are doing well and if you are driving to the south bay we are still off to a good start. 5:48 let's go to steve. sal, we have a lot of fog showing up into san francisco and down towards the peninsular in south bay and it is developing and will continue to do so and visibility can be very tough. watch out as it lifts the high clouds and just the higher clouds but it will give us a high cloud deck, mostly cloudy to the north. 30s and 40s on the temperatures and some of that is holding up but san jose and 34 napa, san rafael 36. so a lot of high clouds and it may make for a a breezy day. our low after 60s over the weekend and you can see clouds

starting to take shape and pressure is building in a alaska and it will bring cold air over us and mainly thursday we will be much colder. until then we warm up tuesday and wednesday will be the transition day and it will usher in cold air for thursday. patchy fog, it's cold out there but kind of a damp cold fog and it may get back to that towards the end of the week. a few 50s and a few low 60s. there will be fog and maybe even lower 60s and turning colder, there could be splash and -- showers and lows will be definitely brisk. united airlines is the first to raise fares. united increased all of its domestic fares and so far only air canada have mapped it.

two men are charged with the deadly shootings of two teenage girls in oakland. they are expected to enter pleas and investigators say powell shot and killed raquel and bobby in november. edwards is being charged as an accessory to murder and he had wards was also charged in the case. the suspects did know the victims. a hearing will be held on whether the man charged with killing seven people at oikos university is mentally fit to stand trial a court appointed psychiatrist is set to stand court and they said, he was not competent to stand trial. lindsay lohan is due back in court today after being accused of hitting a woman at a
